That's All Folks!

I have spent some time reflecting on things and have decided to leave Skeptiko. When I joined, I wanted to have intelligent discussions on consciousness and the nature of reality but soon realised I was out of my depth with people having a lot more knowledge than me so I set about joining in lighter paranormal discussions and creating some threads myself that I thought people might be interested in. Most of them generated very little interest and next to no discussion. I have always felt like the odd one out here having few interests in common with other people and I wonder why I stayed.

One of the threads I created produced controversy and a lot of emotion. Some time after that, my wife and I spent some weeks with her family where I had acces to a computer and free Wi fi but when I looked at skeptiko, there was a venomous attack on David going on so I did some in depth research instead and came out even more skeptical of the said subject of controversy than before. The well of info on this subject goes very very deep if one cares to keep on looking! This accidently came out in another thread where I was badly mocked and accused of lying. I have always on this forum tried to be transparent and I genuinely believe or have believed everything I have written here. The bible talks about not bearing false witness, about satan being the father of lies and about liars having place in the lake of fire and sulphur which is the second death. I'll let my faith be my witness that I was honest.

I have little time on the net in the library here and I use perhaps twice as much energy as most people my age because I have a body that refuses to be still, relaxed or quiet and this becomes more noticable to other people when I am stressed. I am very very tired now and have no wish to continue on a forum where it is seen as acceptable for people to mock, ridicule and swear at others who disagree with them.

If I have learned one thing from being here it is this: there isn't one person on this planet that is anywhere near as spiritual as he likes to think he is. When things get tense, every one of us is prone to throwing faeces like some kind of semi evolved cavemen. Nietzche was very wrong - man cannot aspire to become superman because he will consistently refuse to remove his head from his rectum.

Thank you everybody who has shown me respect. I hope the rest of you grow up one day.
Thank you David - you are a good moderator and a very patient and intelligent man. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise!

Thanks, but please notice that I am still here, even after those venomous attacks! If you want to learn something about consciousness, I am pretty sure this is one of the best places to explore consciousness. The controversy blows over, but the interesting discussions continue.

I would say, just chill out a bit and stick around!

David

Brian, I don't think you are probably a bad guy in RL but I have to be honest with you on one point: I loathe these types of "Goodbye" posts as they simply scream "I need attention". Wouldn't it have just been simpler and more noble to just leave? Or, alternatively, quit posting for a while, let your emotions settle in a bit, reflect, keep loose tabs on what's being discussed and potentially reengage when your interest was piqued?

Hi David,

I did write to Brian to say that you and I had talked and worked it out (as well as other things). I hope that is fair to say?

Sometimes people want to say why they are leaving. Nothing wrong with that. I don't think it is more "noble" (lol) to go all radio silence.

As for quitting for awhile, I've done that a few times before in different forums, including this one, and that is fine.

But if you really feel that there is something wrong in a forum, you should speak out about why you are leaving.

If it is any consolation, I would like to see you stick around. Who knows, maybe you will say just the right thing. At a time when someone very much needs to hear it.

Oh boy, I've been there too. In the past I've become very frustrated and emotionally invested to the point of "resigning" in exasperation. I didn't feel bullied but there was a time when the resident sceptics were much more active and I believed they were just here to spoil the debate. I could have been right or maybe wrong but I let it get to me and I felt helpless, hence the big gesture.

But this forum is somewhat like the Hotel California - so my way of dealing with it now is to lurk a lot and post a little. I take long breaks too. It helps put things in perspective and avoid getting too emotional.
