New Skeptiko Website

Do you use Firefox, David? You can set up an icon on your bookmarks toolbar. Just go to http://www.skeptiko-forum.com/ and then drag the tab it appears on to the toolbar. Any time you want that main menu, just click the bookmark icon you've created and Bob's your uncle.

I'm wondering if you have some setting in your browser that causes your mouse problem: maybe you're using an addon like Tab Mix Plus where you can change things like that? Just a thought.
I can get to the forum OK because I create my own front page for FireFox in HTML, but I am thinking about others who may simply arrive at www.skeptiko.com and want to get to the forum.

Are you saying the menu on the top of the home page works OK for you?

I have never heard of Tab Mix Plus!

All they need do is click on "Forum" at the top of the Skeptiko page and then on the "Forums" tab. It's quite straightforward for me.

Yes, seems to.

If you have Firefox, download it and give it a whizz. It's got tons of options, you just need to play around a bit.

Yes, but you can't assume every newcomer to Skeptiko will have this piece of added software. My point is that there doesn't seem to be any direct (i.e. not editing URL's) way to go from www.skeptiko.com to this page: http://www.skeptiko-forum.com/

David
Alex presumably had to decide where the link from the Skeptiko page opened on the forum. If I were a first-time visitor, I'd expect to go where it actually does go, namely the Skeptiko Shows tab. But I suppose Alex could change that to where you want to go, and that would maybe make apparent what the range of options was. Personally, I can see a case for either. It's up to Alex, I suppose.

But how will people ever discover the other subforums - like Critical Thinking etc.

David

I honestly don't get it, David. It's easy-peasy. I'm wondering if there's something amiss with your set-up.
Well what do you press from the skeptiko top page to get to the list of subforums?

I mean I can do it no problem - I keep my links as a page of HTML, but I can't see how anyone would discover this page:

http://www.skeptiko-forum.com/

Show me how to get there without knowing the correct address already! I'm quite prepared to accept I am dumb!

I just saved the bookmark in my browser, since as you say, it is missing from skeptiko.com.

However, from anywhere within the forum, just click the text-graphic image at the top of the page to get to the top level.

I hadn't realised that the text was clickable - and yes it takes you to the right place - but isn't it crazy that it is so hard to get there - I mean how many visitors will appreciate the range of forums available?

They possibly won't appreciate how many forums are available, but since all they have to do is click a tab labelled "Forums", they should quickly find out! The first time they come here, I think they're likely to want to discuss the latest Skeptiko show, so there's some logic in the way it's currently done. Mind you, being directed instead to the Forums page isn't that much of an issue as the first category in the list is in fact Skeptiko Shows. Maybe you have a point and that should be where people are directed. Alex could soon enough change that if he's a mind.
