Humans May Have Ability to See Infrared Light, Sometimes

Relayed from a study by scientists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis:

Aside from sounding pretty cool, there is a possible relevance to paranormal research, as user and article writer Red Pill Junkie points out:

What appeals to me about this study is not its potential applications in Medicine or industry --or the fact that the scientists didn't follow the "it can't be/therefore it isn't" of skeptics, which helped them uncover a new property of Nature-- but whether it could somehow play a factor in certain 'paranormal events'. Would it be possible that some 'ghostly' apparitions are the result of the witness' retina being excited by electromagnetic energy that, under certain circumstances, might be perceived as visible light?

Interesting I guess photon harmonics...

I know you can get something similar with ultra-sound when I researched it years ago after an accident. Ultra-sound is above our hearing range, but the generation of harmonics can cause us to hear it. I got an accidental blast of harmonics in one ear from an ultra-sonic cat scarer, which has left me with some hearing loss in one ear.

Not liking that you got hearing loss, just find this an interesting conversation.

Salud!

Seems like they use this photon harmonic to produce cheap green commercial lasers from infra-red lasers (the article says they saw green flashes from an infra-red laser, so I guess it's the same thing).

Interestingly they seem to be getting similar types of safety concerns from these devices too, invisible/inaudible energy which you can't protect yourself from...
