Uncut Interview with Susan Blackmore

First an apology, I haven't yet watched this (at least not today). So, a question, is there anything in particular (highlights, choice moments) which make this of interest?

I would this one, for starters. She describes one of three people accurately remote viewing a word she had selected that she had on display in her house. Her explanation is something to the effect of "well that just appears in the noise". What noise exactly?

I still haven't got around to watching all of it. But the image she projects reminds me vaguely of Jamie Lee Curtis in Freaky Friday. (and she was a shrink).

Here's some speculation.

She spent 25years researching the paranormal, but after that time, the penny finally dropped, she realised that being on that side of the fence would never make her the big famous scientist she deeply longed to be.

She changed sides and now loves being a big cog in the sceptical wheel. She was welcomed with open arms as someone who once was lost, but now sees the light, the best kind of academic sceptic. She has buried any trace of integrity that once existed and convinced herself that all her experiments were failures and although she had some sort of out of body thing one night, she's blown it into the deepest NDE that her and a few others can describe.

We know she talks like a world leading expert about stuff she basically last investigated years ago. She is ALL EGO.

We're back to the hair.

AND she probably IS fun at parties.

Ooh, interesting armchair psychoanalysis. Imagine the reception if I did this for, say, Radin or Sheldrake.

You couldn't , they don't dye their hair. :D

Koch would be really great for stuff like that. Hes also not dyeing his hear, but well...ah, you know, the clothes. Hes a lot more controversial then blackmore aswell. That one move from being parasychologist to being a anti-psi-person made her so much money, i wonder how much of that was just pure self-marketing.

The same thing can be said about anyone who claimed they were a complete skeptic and then had an experience that showed them the "truth" and are now making a living on that experience. Eben Alexander comes to mind. Claiming a history of personal skepticism is almost a ubiquitous starter, as if it gives more weight to the truth of their claims.

Please note I'm not even saying this is bad. IMO it certainly doesn't seem like a justifiable reason in and of itself to shoot someone down. People make all kinds of money for all kinds of reasons on all sides of all fences.

True. People make anyone whos "coming from the other camp" some sort of highly-respected person. Alexander is actually a really good example for someone who did it the other way around. Hes propably on the same level as Blackmore.

Oh of course people make money for all sorts of reasons. I personally cant believe people like that though. Neither Blackmore nor Alexander. Its a bit of thing that society put on us, especially since we are living in capitalism - we automatically assert that everyone is doing everything just for the money. Doubting people like that may or may not be justified - its a side effect of the greedy system that we are living in.

You can find Sue's OBE above if the link has worked correctly. She seems to change it fairly often depending on who's she's talking to. If you have a look at this old "Everyman" documentary about NDE's
(go to 5. 14) you'll see that she slips in that she went to heaven, which in a film like this can only be interpreted as the common conception of heaven and I suspect she did this to try to reduce the significance of the blonde curly haired women's experience to something more mundane, even though the curly haired woman's experience was nothing like hers.

Sue's OBE is not like any portion of a classic NDE I've ever read and I agree with Steve, it seems to me she may have engineered a sort of reverse Damascus moment ( seen the light and now knows it's bullshit type of thing) to gain kudos and give her career a boost. But maybe that's only my nasty little mind at work.....

Hmm, are you sure? Perhaps just not wild colors like Blackmore.

You know, I was reading, well skimming through your posts with Craig and Bertha in the thread on here about Alex.....your combined to and fro, never really getting to an answer, and it struck me how this post above might say more than it seems. Sheldrake & Radin might well dye their hair.

We are all ego to some extent or other, it is just a matter of degree. We are all the same. This intellectual banter back and forward and this proponent/skeptic really isn't important, it is just another truth of life, like Ying& Yang, Night & Day etc

The banter of Bertha & Paul might be just another of what makes life possible.

I had a thought like a sparkling glass of water when I started to write this post, but trying to express it in writing somewhat muddied the water. :)

@Paul C. Anagnostopoulos

It might be interesting if you were to write a similar parody for Sheldrake or Radin. You're right, it may not go down well with some, but so far you're the only one to have made any kind of comment raising the point? It might reveal your devious Moriarty like brain ? ;)

I'd choose Sheldrake, I reckon Radin is blander? :) (Relatively speaking, they are both much more colourful than I am for example)
