Mod+ The Halloween Ghost Thread

My Uncle and my Mum were talking recently about 'ghost stories' and to my surprise he had a few of his own. I asked him to write them down, here is one of them:

Mum and me often would talk about the afterlife. She believed, but I do not. She often said that it if she could she would find a way to show me. About four years after she died I was living near Beattock. I was driving home from work one evening with Sheppy(my dog) in the back of the car. As I was driving up Torthorwald Brae, I suddenly was very aware of a very strong smell, which I recognised as Gloria Vanderbilt perfume, which Mum used to wear. I looked in the rear view mirror, and saw mum sitting in the back. I braked hard, causing poor Sheppy to be thrown into the front of the car. At the same instant, a large tractor pulled out of a farm road right in front of me. If I had not braked I know I would have smashed into it.

That's really interesting, Steve.

My last auntie died two years ago ( at 90) ...I didn't have any waking experience of her (after her death) but I did have a very vivid dream in which "I was driving her old car," the car she used to drive me about in when I was kid. She didn't look well when she died but in the dream I turned around and saw her in the back of the car, young and smiling at me. I was stunned and said to her "You're alive, that's amazing." Then I woke up.

It was a dream and if you hadn't of jogged my memory tonight I don't think I would have probably remembered it. It's not in the same league as your uncles experience though.

Steve, you're bringing to mind this. My dad died when I was very young. Not long after his death, as she later told us, my mom was driving (the marriage was very difficult, she had left him about six months before and the death was an abrupt shock, but she wasn't "mourning") and he was suddenly in the seat next to her, for a moment or however how long. She didn't know if she hallucinated, and as she is strongly disinclined to believe in anything paranormal or afterlife-ish, she didn't try to think much more about it, but there it is.

They're great stories, I'm glad my story is bringing them back. As you know, I myself haven't had anything (that I remember) happen, but my uncle has another story which involves me. How weird? It was during my flying training when I stayed with him, I asked if I could sleep on the couch instead of in the spare room, because there was a child crying in a cupboard which disturbed me! I remember quite a bit about the flying training, but zilch about this! I will copy the story when I'm not so tired.

I reckon my mum was talking to him because I gave her Jurgen's book to read, she found it hard going, which I understand. So when she told me that he had experiences of his own I was excited to hear them. He wrote them down and when we went to Scotland this week I picked them up, as well as hearing them first hand.

Tim, although you say that you wouldn't have remembered this dream, you also call it vivid. Would it be correct to say that you remember the details very well? It is possible that you experienced an after death communication. Maybe your connection with your aunt is stronger than you think.

Last summer (Aug) I stayed in London for a few days. I stayed in one of those old, large, row-house hotels near Paddington.

On the last night I was there I went to bed around midnight, but initially couldn't sleep. The room was really cold, and I had an extremely uncomfortable feeling that someone else was in the room. I lay down for a few minutes and tried to sleep but ended up sitting up because the feeling of being watched was so strong. After I sat up I could see smoke/mist in the corner of the tiny room. The mist was completely contained in a sphere that was slightly larger than a basketball, and not quite as round (more oval). I could see it clearly because of the light of the smoke detector (ironically). I watched for a while, and could clearly see the mist/smoke moving around inside its invisible containment.

I was happy that I had got to the bottom of why I was feeling uneasy. I silently thanked it/he/she, then turned over and must have gone straight to sleep since if I had my usual insomnia I would have looked again.

It was awesome and I felt privileged to see it, not afraid at all.

Thanks, Red. I've thought about that, it could certainly have been an ADC, I don't know. I remember the details well enough but I wouldn't say it was as clear as reality.
