I'm not sure I follow what you mean about combining data. I focused on photos because those have been the presentiment studies I've heard about from the media and on the skeptiko podcast (such as Radin's study on presentiment here). But my question can appy to any presentiment experiment in...

I don't think I'm confusing things, but then I'm not an expert on the studies. I'm referring to studies described in this except from Livescience.com Full text here.

    Presentiment-type experiments and a question

Correct. To clarify, I meant one criticism might be that researchers are looking for the physical markers without first having established what exactly they are first (or some type of confirmation bias). If there are pre-established physical markers, which of course there must be, then blindly...

    Presentiment-type experiments and a question

I was thinking that a read on the physical response data would not somehow replace the research, but act as a congruent piece of the puzzle. I figure one of the main skeptical responses to presentiment studies is that the researchers first learn what image the subject chose, and then...

    Presentiment-type experiments and a question

I'm not sure. But certainly there are clear markers the researchers must be looking for to confirm the presentiment, otherwise the research wouldn't make sense. The pictures must be paired with a clear and detectable physical response.

    Presentiment-type experiments and a question

I will definitely do that. And maybe Dr. Mossbridge as well. I also don't know if there is any MRI data. But clearly there is some bassline for understanding the physical reaction data that is recorded. Unless the experiment is designed such that the test subject first selects what they...

    Presentiment-type experiments and a question

This is general question meant for anyone who has a good knowledge of presentiment experiments. I'm posting here because this section seems to get the most traction. Does anyone know if, as part of any presentiment experiments, a researcher was provided with the raw physical response data...

Five year old Ramses Sanguino examined by doctors after mother claims he is telepathic

Hi Roberta, IMO the huge play this has received in mainstream media could ultimately do more harm than good to the field in general, and based on the number of red flags I'm seeing in this case this is exactly what I fear will happen.

Mod+ 284. Why police don’t use psychic detectives? Even though they are effective.

That's cool, and I understand. Perhaps can you tell me exactly what year? I'm interested in looking further into this and I'm sure there must be some record if a graduate student was arrested for murder. Thanks!

Hi Judith, Do you have any further info on this individual? If not can you lead me to any information to learn more about this case? Thanks.

Congrats! The first one is always a pretty amazing experience. I'm sure it will be the first of many.

How can Alex be so firm in his stance? Objectivity has gone out the window

I'm really not so sure. There's a good chance that we are going to, as a species, become most excellent architects of reductionism whilst simultaneously explaining nothing at all. Correlation will never get us to the core of what conscious awareness actually is.

How can Alex be so firm in his stance? Objectivity has gone out the window

That's why I said that Alex's position on materialists/atheists and meaning seems like a strawman. How we think consciousness works doesn't seem to have an actual impact on whether or not we have meaning or find meaning. We might also want to consider that how science is framed my have a big...

How can Alex be so firm in his stance? Objectivity has gone out the window

I'm not sure if that answers my question though. Does Integrated Information Theory tell you the subject, such as the one you built, is actually conscious?

How can Alex be so firm in his stance? Objectivity has gone out the window

I guess I meant that the cosmos is doing something for some reason. And part of what it does is make conscious beings. Sure. A desire to live?

How can Alex be so firm in his stance? Objectivity has gone out the window

Meaning is certainly cultural on a level. But meaning is also clearly baked into the cosmos from the get go, or at least present in the pieces that brought us to where we are as conscious beings. And I don't see any reason this "meaning" wouldn't allow for variables over time. I'm starting to...

    Uncut Interview with Susan Blackmore

The same thing can be said about anyone who claimed they were a complete skeptic and then had an experience that showed them the "truth" and are now making a living on that experience. Eben Alexander comes to mind. Claiming a history of personal skepticism is almost a ubiquitous starter, as if...
