How can Alex be so firm in his stance? Objectivity has gone out the window

I am not a scientist. It seems based on personal experience lately that people need something to looks to, for most traditional religion isn't doing it for them. We treat scienctists like they are the Justice League or something...even though more stories pop up every day about corruption in...

    Psychologists/Psychiatrics

Thanks for all the responses, guys. I appreciate all the insight and suggestions. To give a few more specifics I have always felt a strong sense of alienation, not from my family or friends but by society at large. I am not career minded, not terribly interested in dating or the prospect of...

    Psychologists/Psychiatrics

When discussing some issues I've been having someone suggested that I 'seek help' from a professional psychologist/psychiatrist. This was said in a caring way, not a mean way. I did however disregard the suggestion out of my contempt of the traditional study of psychology. I don't really know...

Rational Wiki deletes essay criticizing Rational Wiki

I agree. At least you know RW is going to have a particular perspective...Wikipedia isn't supposed to have that. But we really shouldn't consider Wikipedia a legit source of information either...

    Checklist 4 Lucid Dreaming

It's strange. I have had very few lucid dreams but I always feel as if I am somehow more aware when sleeping than 'should' be. On occasion when I am very tired and fall asleep quickly and don't 'recall' sleeping it is unnerving. I don't even know if my words can accurately describe it...it's...

Rational Wiki deletes essay criticizing Rational Wiki

The RW people are definitely the crusading types. I made a joke about them and Conservapedia on Facebook one time and it legit made a few people pissed. Like the same level of pissed if you insulted a zealot's religion. Seems pretty self-evident that they can't be considered as a legit source...

Rational Wiki deletes essay criticizing Rational Wiki

I applaud your effort, sir. With that said, are you honestly surprised? We can only hope the people are Rational Wiki and Conservapedia destroy each other in some kind of epic battle of zealotry. It's clear the folks at RW are zealots of the worse type. They are not worth the effort.

Mirroed: Asphyxia-activated corticocardiac signaling accelerates onset of cardiac arrest.

Seems to be par for the course these days. Not only in the science news but the mainstream news as well. Opinion and incomplete information passed off as fact.

As a species, are we special, or not?

I think that is ridiculous. The fact that we are seen as not special, not your post. Those diehard materialists have a real tangible self-loathing for everything it seems...the neo-Atheist crowd mostly gives me that vibe.

Lawrence krauss on bill maher show Nde's

Bill Mahr, and HBO has a philosophical/political axe to grind. Mahr has always been antagonist to "spiritual" issues...it's no surprise he has guests like these on. They are firebrands...they get people talking. I just ignore them...

New study linking brain activity to NDE's

It always made sense to me that even highly "spiritual" experiences have a biological element. Seems to make sense if we are intergrated beings...if that makes any sense.

    Flu shot zealots.

Something funny and thought provoking happened yesterday. While at a routine doctor's visit my doctor asked me if I had received the flu shot, I had not. I never get them, for reasons that really are not important to the story. Anyways he didn't push the issue rather just simply said he had...
