It never makes any difference, really. Michael Sabom was absolutely not expecting to find any replication of Moody's observed pattern (NDE) when he started his study.
Peter Fenwick thought the California factor was operating and NDE's wouldn't cross the Atlantic. They were both good solid sceptical professionals but as soon as they committed the cardinal sin of being persuaded by the evidence, the so called sceptics immediately bracketed them as loons and crackpots, if not actually in those terms.
They can't win because the evidence is certainly believable but as soon as they believe it (Parnia) they are classified as believers which is about on a par with calling someone a credulous dick head from a sceptics point of view.
