Coronavirus Pandemic

Even if the fatality rate of covid 19 is the same as the flu, it can kill more people because it is more contagious - more total people can contract it - and it can put a greater strain on the healthcare system because more people get sick in a shorter period of time.

Correct. In cats this is like weeds. It is EVERYWHERE. Prob. (guessing) at least 50-75% of shelter animals have it. They have some form of it.

Jim Smith raises some great questions. Here's a few more...

A black swan is an event or occurrence that deviates beyond what is normally expected of a situation and is extremely difficult to predict.

While current events may be a black swan for many people, it wasn’t for all.

Today I want to address a big question…Why were we so unprepared for this? How could this crisis have been foreseen?

But it WAS. Specifically so, and thus far, almost exactly as it’s playing out.

Have you heard of Event 201 which occurred on October 18th, 2019? http://www.centerforhealthsecurity.org/event201/scenario.html

“Event 201 simulates an outbreak of a novel zoonotic coronavirus transmitted from bats to pigs to people that eventually becomes efficiently transmissible from person to person, leading to a severe pandemic. The pathogen and the disease it causes are modeled largely on SARS, but it is more transmissible in the community setting by people with mild symptoms.”

They put the start from pigs in Brazil, but otherwise it’s almost exactly the same as what is occurring today. I recommend at the very least you watch the Highlight Reel on this page. http://www.centerforhealthsecurity.org/event201/videos.html

(I’m planning to watch through all the other videos on that page too but have not yet.)

Look, I do believe in coincidence. And definitely in synchronicity. But this leaves me with some questions…

The CDC was there. Specifically, Stephen Redd, MD, director of the CDC’s Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response. https://www.cdc.gov/media/spokesperson/redd/redd-P.pdf

I know a lot of people are blaming Trump for this situation. I agree he hasn’t handled it well. But to put all the focus on the orange man (as our media and people love to do) is the skip over the fact the one man does not make up the entire government.

An argument could certainly be made that this happened so close to events that we weren’t prepared for it. But this isn’t the first time exercises or “war games” such as this have been done. Dr. Redd was the “incident commander for the 2009 H1N1 pandemic response.”

Where is the head of our preparedness and response now? Why has our response in the USA so horrible, when we foresaw it coming?

Dr. Redd said “This is not a problem we can test our way out of.”
https://news.yahoo.com/cdc-tested-o...testing-slow-around-the-nation-153646616.html

When he said that, sure. But it could have happened earlier…if only we had been prepared.

The CDC didn’t just seem inept, but actually looks like they’ve been striving to bumble up testing by trying to setup their own testing protocol. https://www.propublica.org/article/cdc-coronavirus-covid-19-test

Was this simply because they wanted to make money off their own test? Or did they want to stall the testing so this pandemic was made worse?

Understand that the CDC does not have a good track record on testing. Remember the Swine Flu? We saw the CDC stop testing and counting cases, while reporting huge numbers. Investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson found this out before she left CBS because of their clamp down on real journalism. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/swine-flu-cases-overestimated/

Why was the CDC sending out flawed test kits? https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/u...pped-to-states-are-flawed-cdc-says/ar-BBZWV1C Caught unawares or striving to dampen our response?

Meanwhile, our government is classifying top-level meetings regarding the virus. Why? What are they trying to hide?

Reuters reported this was “an unusual step that has restricted information and hampered the U.S. government’s response to the contagion.” https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...ronavirus-deliberations-sources-idUSKBN20Y2LM

I highly, highly recommend reading this article by investigative journalist Whitney Webb. I started following her work surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein case a few months back as it goes deep. She’s good!
https://www.mintpressnews.com/us-in...sified-9-11-like-coronavirus-response/265687/

(Remember it’s the same government handling this response as said Epstein killed himself because of the perfect storm of screw-ups. They’ll say the same thing about this pandemic soon enough.)

What Webb says is that our intelligence communities are playing a huge role in directing the emergency response.

Again, I ask why? Is this a health epidemic? Or is it an intelligence operation?

Look at these facts. Then you can clearly see that they want this virus (whatever it’s true origin) to impact us in a big way. This was foreseen. We could have responded like South Korea did with great testing early on but instead we got caught with our pants down. It serves their agenda. We will see that unfold in real-time now.

Webb sums up, “The coming government response, the agencies largely responsible for crafting it and its classified nature deserve public scrutiny now, particularly given the federal government’s tendency to not let “a serious crisis to go to waste,” as former President Obama’s then-chief of staff Rahm Emanuel infamously said during the 2008 financial crisis. Indeed, during a time of panic — over a pandemic and over a simultaneous major economic downturn — concern over government overreach is warranted, particularly now given the involvement of intelligence agencies and the classification of planning for an explosion of domestic cases that the government believes is only weeks away.”

Once you see that possibility, you can then to ask where is this headed? You can make predictions with better accuracy.

I’ve been telling people we’re going to be on quarantine very soon. Yesterday it happened for me. Watch it spread throughout the USA further. Watch us go from “sheltered” to “full-on quarantine.”

You can see this playing out almost exactly as described in Event 201…as if according to plan. They talk about steps that are still to come in their videos though that will be dependent on how many deaths we start seeing. Watch. Be prepared.

Excellent post except where you put "orange man bad". Maybe you will say "yellow man bad" next. Stop it. Orange man was ahead of the curve when he shut down the flights from China. Just stop it. Yeah, I read your back peddling. Ya still did it. *gesh.

THAT SAID, I listened to the Queen today. Very nice. All of a sudden my antenna went up when I saw this! :

Watched the second video first and have yet to watch the first.

First, how would I know whether the German pulmonologist is right or not? While he says he ran a public health system for 150k people, he doesn't appear to be a virologist or infectious disease specialist.

Second, the logic he walks us through comes off as pretty straight-forward and, to be frank, rather elementary. Strikes me that any actual expert would have thought of these things. Which leads me to...

Third, its a capitalist conspiracy as all the virologists are seeking the approval of the industrial complex with the money (i.e., the politicians). This doesn't hold water for me. If this is, as the good German doctor suggests, a hoax it will expose all the various governments' experts as incompetent and worse, fraudulent. This seems self defeating.

On a related note, it raises the same old challenge with any of these appeals to authority, whether one's own (e.g., the German doctor) or third party: We're all in a conflicted position of interests. There is always something to be gained through currying favor with someone or another. Any story can be woven together so as to make an expert/authority appear compromised. Who knows what the good doctor stands to gain from his own video? Seems at least as likely he has an ulterior motive as those he's accusing of the same.

Again, how they hell am I or any of you to actually "know". I'm presuming here that none of us are expert virologists. This just seems such a convoluted conspiracy requiring so many scientists to "sign off" and with really nothing to gain considering the cost (at least economically if not lives). Occam's Razor is screaming "look at me!" in this case. I'm sticking with the "this novel virus is something to take seriously" for the time being.
***
How do you know I'm not a virologist? Actually I'm a forensic accountant. That said, I can learn. SO! First up, how to kill a virus. Easy UV lights. UV lights kill all viruses in the air. Inside you, not so easy. You need to open the cell wall, we'd do that using something like Chloroquine (hydroxychloroquine is better/easier on the heart) THEN we hit it with zinc. The body makes zinc, but I'd take additional zinc.

Not sure what to think, I mean I was all on this thing back in late 2019, saw the pandemic coming. Because I talk to people all over the world. ANYWAY... If this is indeed FIP (that cats get) you WILL have to shut EVERYTHING down for 30 days so it can die off (a virus is not a living thing). I suspect this is why China was taking people kicking & screaming into "camps" that were healthy. THEY had been exposed. Once exposed, you become a carrier in cat world, it can't be cured. You become asymptomatic a carrier/spreading it. From the way China handled it... ehhh, pretty nasty stuff. They were stuffing 3 bodies into one body bag. The new crematoriums... yeah those, the people they hired had to NOT believe in ghost, spooks or zombies. You know why they asked that? It's pretty clear, the people in the bags, not all of them were dead. Granted they were probably super spreaders or on deaths door, they had to be gotten rid of. China has no problem doing that. Welding people into their apt's to starve to death as well.

As I watched this back in Dec.2019... I thought omg... okay, they are dragging off well-looking people, those people were fighting tooth & nail NOT to go. Why? Because they had already seen what was happening. People taken away never came back.... ever. Could be some exceptions if they are needed in "the party" I guess (?). But, in general, nobody wanted to go to those "hospitals". Doors locking from the outside (nobody can get out). Those new hospitals, look closely at them. They were trailers stacked one on top of the other. One window w/bars. One door that locked from the outside. Yeah, we can build those in 6 days.

I'm with you 100% on the last statement... this is something weird. Something very weird. I'm going with an underpaid, overworked & unappreciated janitor at the virology lab was tired & hunger. He got yelled at for not taking out the "garbage". I can just hear his "supervisor" yelling, "IT'S on you TAKE CARE OF IT or you're fired." Old dude, says fine, takes the medical garbage to a dumpster, doesn't wash hands. Then he goes to get his bat soup at the fish market. Just tired & hungry.

You have to give China credit for being willing to just murder a bunch of their own once they figured out, this was bad. They killed their own (even alive people). Herd breeding. They do it in animal world all the time.

I am actually more interested in the question as to how you measure the lethality of this virus, if it mainly affects People who are seriously ill for other reasons.

David
They already said people who died, had other problems. Smokers, heart problems... so I guess their immune system was kind of shot. I mean in a cat, that is how it kind of looks (not 100% sure) but the kittens when exposed die easy. So, we put that down to mean they didn't have the immune sys. to fight it off. They die at the 10-14 day mark of being exposed. As I think about it, I'm thinking, from what I have seen... if you are healthy (say 30 yrs.old) you can get exposed. So then your immune system goes on. You get well, BUT then the 2nd wave comes (it always does)... so the virus has either replicated OR your immune sys. is too weak to fight it again (?). I mean it's already replicated like 3 or 5 times. I'd have to look it up. Okay it says it has changed 8 times already (like they know) but... here is the story on that or use your search engine to find more: https://thehill.com/changing-americ...-least-8-strains-of-the-coronavirus-have-been

I am sorry, Christopher, I am a great believer in using down to earth language.

When I try to translate what you write into normal language, I get something like this:

There are things you observe directly, and things you read on the internet (I long pre-date the internet, so I would also include papers, books, magazines, etc).

It has, of course, always been true that one or other source of information will play a greater or lesser role in people's mental life - varying from person to person. I suppose 60 years ago you would have written similar prose (maybe with a fountain pen) comparing physical reality and library reality.

Are you saying anything else?

David
LOL.

Cardiovascular health is also an important predictor of survival because if you get pneumonia you have a better chance of surviving if your system is more efficient at absorbing oxygen. Someone who gets regular aerobic exercise will stand a better chance of surviving.

We have a winner: "
Is the coronavirus disease zoonotic?
Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people." Okay, when they tell you it is from CATS! I'm going to want ALL the praise! Thank you.

PS: I'm not going w/the bat story. I've never owned bats but I don't think so. If anyone gets close enough to someone with it, report back to us if they have an odd smell. Cause cats do when they are older & have it.

They are expecting peak hospital resource use on April 15. It takes time for people to develop symptoms but they can still be contagious. Right now we are near the peak risk of catching covid-19 in the US. In China, 80% of cases were spread by people who were not showing symptoms.

Washington, D.C. April 5, 2020) – The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Veterinary Services Laboratories has confirmed SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19 in humans) in one tiger at a zoo in New York. This is the first instance of a tiger being infected with COVID-19. Samples from this tiger were taken and tested after several lions and tigers at the zoo showed symptoms of respiratory illness.
Public health officials believe these large cats became sick after being exposed to a zoo employee who was actively shedding virus. The zoo has been closed to the public since mid-March, and the first tiger began showing signs of sickness on March 27. All of these large cats are expected to recover. There is no evidence that other animals in other areas of the zoo are showing symptoms.
USDA and CDC are monitoring the situation and working to support the state and local health departments and state animal health officials. State animal and public health officials will take the lead in making determinations about whether animals, either at this zoo or in other areas, should be tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. USDA will notify the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) of this finding.
Anyone sick with COVID-19 should restrict contact with animals, out of an abundance of caution including pets, during their illness, just as they would with other people. Although there have not been reports of pets becoming sick with COVID-19 in the United States, it is still recommended that people sick with COVID-19 limit contact with animals until more information is known about the virus. If a sick person must care for a pet or be around animals, they should wash their hands before and after the interaction.

I TOLD YOU SO! I told everyone it was from CATS! It's the wet form (FIP) coronavirus. I bet I'm right (again). Meanwhile back at the ranch... you know they are working on a vaccine right? Okay, I'm SURE they are (and all the stupid hype) that is going to go with that/everyone yelling "I'M NOT TAKING the mark of the beast vaccine".

But I had a thought, listening to a medical researcher working on a coronavirus vaccine he said it will produce "proteins" to fight this thing. But, I was also studying amyloids (for a long time) which is the misfolding of proteins. They clump together like a goo and travel the body. Things like Alzheimers is amyloids, some heart issues all kinds of nonsense is actually amyloidosis, MS, infertility I mean there is a long list (liver/kidneys). I've talked to researchers working on cures (like Stanford/ the U of Tn.) ANYWAY... when proteins misfold they travel the body & clump.

I told them amyloids would be behind MANY diseases years ago. Doctors said amyloids was rare. IT IS NOT RARE!

BTW, just in case you didn't know, researchers don't work together. They DO NOT share any of their findings. Pity. We'd be so much further along. But no researchers share nothing (and a lot of them lie). They are in it for the $$$. We are off to the races now to find this "vaccine" for corona... the winner will patient it.

hum, wonder if in the end, this cure (vaccine) will end up being worse than the disease?

I saw that. Kind of confusing. BUT, what I think the woman (Dr.Brix) was saying to the media stop scaring people that we don't have respirators. Because they do have them. The 2nd part of the message is to stay in. BECAUSE right now walking around are the "zombies" with it (and soon they will fall into the hospitals). The hospitals will be overcome with those people. THEN, 2 weeks to 10 days behind them will be the NEW cases that then will totally flood hospitals. So, they want you inside so you don't show up sick & there won't be respirators.
I'm getting kind of confused by the media lies as well, look at this (it's important/if true):

Well let me generous with you, when I read your posts I can't extract any significant meaning - but that could, of course, be my fault - I'd actually like to know what the hell you are saying! Maybe you should add a summary for people like me to explain what you are saying!

David
Fine David, but please if this very short does not satisfy, then can we together just let it go?
I think general people change their living method based on assumed realities (realities as presented in the internet).

A little further on this if needed/wanted:
Presentations on the internet are all framed by the publisher/videographer.
But what you view right now in your own room, is framed by you.

Some people can not help but frame what is in their room, to mentally frame their room to include what is in the internet. Therefore the internet realities could become of greater importance to them than their room itself.

I hope that helped.

When you get them in private they will admit that everyone (except in their own labs) is cheating on their research.

Well, I always called myself a moderate conspiracst, and distanced myself from an extreme ones. This means, why I accept the fact that there are many elite groups that are trying to obtain even more power than they already have by covert means, and they are capable of a lot of ugliness; yet I do NOT think that there is a singular worldwide meta-conspiracy that controls all other conspiracies for a single purpose.

That's why I think of this current global panic as exactly of this - panic, caused by mass supseptibility to fear and stupidity, rather than a kind of global conspiracy... This does not cancel the fact that a lot of elite groups - governmental, corporate, academic etc. - are now actively trying to use this mass hysteria to advance their own even-more-power-grabbing agendas).

Yet... after I saw THIS... I really had to fight a temptation to postulate a truly global conspiracy:

https://www.hopkins-cepar.org/on-alert/two-different-drills-with-two-different-goals

What do you think of this?

I agree Vortex.
The global similarity of policy reactions is a pretty good clue to this having a closed conspiracy source.
On the outside of that closure is a synchronized media campaign, and a rather precise set of targets of censorship.
The policies and the media work have people "knowing" that any resistance would be one (the individual singularly) against the government machine.

Final result is something much worse than fear.
Final result is a pervasive apathy.

Will a beautiful dawn follow this dark moment of night?

I'm not buying the asymptomatic stuff, the numbers are off in America and all of a sudden it's asymptomatic people spread 80 percent? How did they come up with this number? If one never gets tested nor has symptoms are they asymptomatic? Gtfo

Random but does anyone have the bill gates youtube clip where he says he wants to depopulate? Seems it was scrubbed

That is certainly the right question to ask. The answer is that H1N1 was a year long process. However, it was much bigger than what we are seeing from covid-19. If take H1N1's year long admissions to hospitals and deaths and convert to a monthly average, you get just about what we are seeing from covid-19. So I think my question (and the point therein) remains viable.

Also, there have been some bad flu years where lots of people have been on vents; like way more than covid-19 to date. The monthly average from those flu seasons is also way higher than the monthly covid-19 averages. Again, why no complaining about a lack of vents and masks?

I agree with you that Trump is being forced to act and that his acting then signals as "evidence" for the severity of this thing. It's a self-reinforcing feedback loop. I further agree that a plethora of interest groups have independently become invested in keeping this thing alive; that said, this might be one of those rare instances when a true conspiracy is afoot. Maybe. Remains to be proven (evolved self-organizing feedback loops versus deliberate plot by a small group of individuals; or both in operation). Something about this smells rotten, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is exactly that has set off my usually quiet paranoid alarm.
I agree

This article published in Science, the Journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science seems to be the source of the statistic that 80% of infections come from asymptomatic cases.

I understand you are skeptical, I am not posting this to argue the statistic is correct, I am just providing it since you asked for the reference.

"These undocumented infections often experience mild, limited or no symptoms and hence go unrecognized "

"Here we use observations of reported infection within China, in conjunction with mobility data, a networked dynamic metapopulation model and Bayesian inference, to infer critical epidemiological characteristics associated with SARS-CoV2, including the fraction of undocumented infections and their contagiousness. We estimate 86% of all infections were undocumented (95% CI: [82%–90%]) prior to 23 January 2020 travel restrictions. "
To me it seems reasonable because during the exponential spread of a virus with a long latency period like covid 19, most cases won't be showing symptoms yet, although many will be contagious. And once someone is showing symptoms of covid-19 they are isolated. So the only people who are really capable of spreading the infection are those who are not yet showing symptoms and those who have mild cases and don't know they are sick.

It also makes sense from an evolutionary point of view, the most successful strains of a virus will spread without disabling the host because a disabled host is going to be less mobile and less capable of spreading the virus, especially if they are dead. I think that is why so many of these really dangerous diseases cross into humans from animals. They are dangerous to humans because they have not had enough time to evolve to use the new source of hosts efficiently.

That is curious, but a successful conspiracy surely tries to be secret - not advertise itself like this.

One thing I find strange about Skeptiko, is that we discuss a wide range of things, but while we discuss possible psychic connections quite freely, we almost never try to invoke them in connection with matters that might loosely be called political.

We often hear of the idea that we actually create some or all of consensus reality, and I seriously wonder if exercises like this may unwittingly create something in consensus reality.

David

I'll tell you how I suspect they come up with numbers like that.

They start with an assumption that this disease entered the US somewhere close to the new year. Then they ramp up the number of test kits, so that over time they do more and more tests per day, and they find more and more COVID-19. This looks like extremely rapid transmission, but in reality I think this virus has been around for much longer than we realised so numbers of positive tests scale up with the number of tests performed , and is spread widely in the population. Another possible spuriosity is to consider what if the tests produce a small false positive rate - again the more tests you do, the more COVID-19 you find - which, in turn spurs you on to do yet more testing!

Many of those experts whom I quoted a while back, particularly John Ioannidis, were raising scenarios of this type.

So how come we didn't see cases of this disease in the past? My hunch is that we did, but they were simply thought to be bad cases of pneumonia/flu. Remember, before this began there were no tests for COVID-19, and one of the dissident experts explained that swabs taken from seriously ill people often contain more than one type of virus - so even if they looked for flu, they may have detected it at levels that were insignificant.

This brings me on to one of my more general criticisms of science - that we now have incredibly sensitive ways to detect all sorts of things - viruses, chemicals, etc. We have the sensitivity, but we don't have enough experience about how to use such sensitive tests.
