Mod+ When Radical Ideas Challenge Conventional Science | EU2015

#1

At the EU2015 conference this past June, the well known “skeptic” Michael Shermer participated in a panel discussion on the topic, "When Radical Ideas Challenge Conventional Science." Wal Thornhill and Dave Talbott also participated, along with Dr. Gary Schwartz of the University of Arizona. Subsequently, Dr. Shermer’s dismissive review of the conference appeared in Scientific American, October 2015. But now Dr. Shermer’s review itself is the subject of critical analysis, including comments from Dr. Donald Scott and mathematician Stephen Crothers. You can be certain that others will add to the discussion in coming weeks.

Left to right: Gary Schwartz, Dave Talbott, Michael Shermer, and Wal Thornhill. Moderated by Andy Bartlett.

Thanks, looks promising. I wiil watch it later... meanwhile I could not resist the question... what Shermer has to do with "Radical ideas"? Did he end up at the wrong conference? :D

Read the comments on youtube. He was not a popular addition to that conference.

I have almost finished watching the conference and I was once again amused by Dr. Shermer... he's one of a kind, bashing alternative theories because he doesn't understand what they can do in practice, how they can be applied in the real world to improve it...

Ah ... the sweet irony... with the largest particle accelerator costing 13+ billion euros/dollars. Has anyone heard Shermer bitching about the uselessness of the Higgs particle? :D

The Higgs boson is another one of those promissory things... "We will find some applications for it... Eventually." So, that's why he's perfectly fine with that.
